 Biography

Scott Waldron researches on agricultural and rural development in China and the policy and institutional settings that guide the development process. This is done especially through in-depth analyses of food and fibre chains (beef, sheepmeat, wool and cashmere) that are major determinants of grassland condition and livelihoods in Western China (Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu, Tibet)

Scott Waldron grew up on a cattle farm, has an undergraduate background in Asian and Chinese studies and PhD in Agricultural Economics. He is fluent in Chinese and has conducted numerous collaborative projects and extensive fieldwork throughout China, epsecially Western China. He is the author of 9 scholarly books, 3 of which are translated into Chinese, and numerous journal articles including for Food Policy, The China Journal and China Quarterly
