 Biography

Dr Tonguc Uysal's research is in the fields of: Evolution of fossil and active hydrothermal/geothermal systems and thermal and fluid flow histories of sedimentary basins. His research is using a combined application of alteration mineralogy, isotope/trace element geochemistry and geochronology.

More specifically, his research interests cover:

  • Clay mineralogy, diagenesis of clastic rocks and very low-grade metamorphism
  • Isotope geochemistry and geochronology of phyllosilicate and carbonate minerals
  • Geochemical tracing and age dating of ancient and modern CO2-rich hydrothermal systems in tectonically active regimes
He received his PhD from The University of Queensland in 1999. His chief research projects are in the areas of:
  • Geochemical, geochronological and mineralogical studies for exploration and characterisation of geothermal reservoirs in Queensland, Australia
  • Isotopic tracing of mineral precipitation from CO2-rich waters in eastern Australian Mesozoic hydrothermal systems
  • Dating and geochemical tracing of paleoseismic events in active fault zones in the eastern Mediterranean
  • Climatic effect on carbonate vein depositions in seismically active zones
