Lecturer in International Relations Background:
Prior to joining the University of Queensland in January 2004, Dr Ungerer was the Foreign Affairs and National Security Advisor to the Leader of the Federal Opposition. He has previously worked in Australia and overseas with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. From 1999-2002, he was a senior Strategic Analyst in the Office of National Assessments. Dr. Ungerer has lectured and tutored at the University of Queensland and Griffith University.
Research Interests:
- Australian Foreign Policy: the form and conduct of Australian diplomacy particularly in the areas of arms control and intelligence.
- Asian Pacific Security: material and normative influences on defence and security policies in the region.
- US Foreign Policy, national security and grand strategy.
- Proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and ballistic missiles: strategic implications, state responses and terrorist implications.
