Susan is a researcher in the area of neuroscience, examining the role of astrocytes in neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (lack of oxygen) Susan completed her undergraduate qualifications at the University of Queensland, Australia, graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Science in the field of Biochemistry in 2002. Susan has three years’ experience as a research assistant at both the University of Queensland and University of Newcastle, Australia. In 2005, Susan was awarded an APA scholarship to undertake her PhD studies at the University of Newcastle, and completed her studies in 2008. In 2009, she was awarded both a University of Queensland Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and an NH&MRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Susan is currently an NH&MRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Professor Paul Colditz's group at The University of Queensland's Centre for Clinical Research. Susan's research interests include astrocyte biology, glutamate excitotoxicity and neonatal hypoxia-ischemia.
