 Biography

Dr Julie Stokes is the team leader for the Health Services Research Group.

Dr Julie Stokes completed her PhD at the University of Queensland concerning the introduction of clinical pharmacy as a quality use of medicines intervention in residential aged care facilities. This work contributed to the national funding of clinical pharmacy services in residential care, a program where, for the first time in Australia, community-based pharmacists were funded for cognitive services independent from the supply of a product. Prior to joining the university, Julie worked in hospital pharmacy and drug information.

The translation of research into practice is common theme in Julie's work. She has also been involved in a number of large national studies including: The medication use in hostels project, the evaluation of medication review services in nursing homes, the evaluation of the Brisbane North Division of General Practice TEAMCare Health Coordinated Care Project and the Commonwealth’s Domiciliary Medication Review Project. Julie has a broad range of research interests but she has a particular interest in pharmacy service delivery, service quality and measurement related to those services. Julie’s recent research includes:
- A randomised controlled trial of the provision of dose administration aids (DAAs) to veterans, characterising those who would benefit from DAAs.
- Developing indicators to improve the quality of wound care services provided by community pharmacies.
- The evaluation of the Quality Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP).
- An assessment of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of DAAs provided by community pharmacies and the development of best practice models for the provision of these services.
