Soil and water chemistry Dr Spark is an environmental scientist whose expertise in understanding natural chemical processes encompasses:
– identifying strategies for the land application of wastes;
– identifying strategies for managing contaminants in soils and waters; and
– the enhancement of the quality of soils and waters.
Major projects which Dr Spark has managed include the application of flyash and biosolid wastes to soils, the role of organic matter in the fate of heavy metals and pesticides in the environment, assessing the persistence of termiticides in soils, identifying soil processes that sequester carbon and using flyash to reduce soil acidity.
Collaborative partners in the projects have included agricultural land managers, mining industry personnel, community groups, and government environmental custodians. She has published work in approximately 30 papers in scientific journals and 12 confidential industry reports.
