 Biography

Dr. Slaughter is a lecturer in the School of Tourism and Leisure Management where she has been actively engaged in research, teaching and community projects.

After travelling extensively in the early 1990s, Dr Slaughter returned to Australia to pursue tourism studies at The University of Queensland. In 2000 Lee was awarded her doctorate which focused on backpacker tourism. Since then Lee has been a lecturer in the School of Tourism and Leisure Management where she has been actively engaged in research, teaching and community projects.

Dr Slaughter's primary area research interest is in tourism management, particularly as it relates to backpacker tourism. Related areas of research which Lee has been active in include youth tourism, tourist motivation and volunteer management. Recent projects include:
Profiling backpacker markets both locally and nationally.
Investigating changes in holiday motivations over time.
Exploring the motivations of volunteers.
