Novel treatment of inflammatory diseases in animals and man.

The most effective treatments for inflammatory diseases in humans and animals are currently glucocorticosteroids and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs with a few special drugs with narrow applications. These drugs have adverse side effects in some patients which limits their long term use. A new and novel class of antiinflammatory drug which targets the complement cascade of the hosts immune system offers the promise of excellent activity in a wide range of disease states. Clinical application of this science is the focus of my research, particularly in the field of veterinary medicine.
