 Biography

Professor Saunders’ research interests include; Race relations, gender roles, cultural history, Australian constitution, World War 2, national security and war.

Professor Saunders holds a BA hons in Anthropology and Sociology UQ (1970), and a PhD UQ (1975). She currently teaches in the areas of Australian and US history, war and society, gender relations, and race relations.

Her current research projects include Miss Australia Quest; and national minorities in war.

Professor Saunders has also been involved in the following activities:

  • deputy Chair of Workplace Health and Safety (2002-4)
  • University Senate (2002-4)
  • National Task Force of the National Museum of Australia(1999-2002)
  • member premier's Advisory Council on Women's Policy (1999-2001)
  • Council Member, Australian War Memorial (1994-7)
  • Chair QG's Cultural Advisory Council 1997-99
  • member of Zonta, Lyceum Club, World Wide Fund for Nature
