 Research Interests

Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Coastal Zones, Estuaries and Waterways Management
Developing algorithms for application to image data for use in monitoring selected coastal ecosystem health indicators.

     Rainforest CRC
This project involves working closely with state and local government agencies in the wet tropics of North Queensland to develop remote sensing solutions for their environmental monitoring requirements. Development of successful techniques to map features ranging from individual tree crowns, to canopy gaps and forest structure at regional scales.

     Multiscale Remote Sensing
Addresses the need for a set framework to enable potential users of remotely sensed data to select the optimal data set for their application. This continuing long term project has built a significant conceptual framework, taken in national and international survey results, and conducted
several trial applications. Several students are involved in joint projects with the Greenhouse Accounting CRC and Tropical Savanna CRC.

     Industry Linkage Projects
Several projects are underway which aim to provide remotely-sensed solutions to key environmental problems, e.g. linking natural vision systems with remote sensing, and estimating kangaroo populations.
