Middle Years of Schooling; Postmodern theory and teaching practice; gender and education; qualitative research methods; pedagogy and body theory; home economics, family and consumer studies education; hospitality and tourism studies. Dr Donna Pendergast is Program Director for middle years teacher education programs at The University of Queensland. Donna and her team developed the first dedicated program for teachers of the middle years in Australia. She has played a pivotal role in key projects investigating middle school reforms around Australia, including the federally funded MCEETYA Middle Years of Schooling and Life Long Learning Project and the DEST funded Beyond the Middle Project. She has completed many sectoral and school based consultancies, and provided advice to the Queensland Minister for Education regarding the Middle Phase of Learning. Along with her interest in middle schooling, Donna has an international profile in the field of Family and Consumer Studies. She has published widely, including her edited book "Teaching Middle Years" which has been selected as a Choice Outstanding Academic Title. This year her book "The Millennial Adolescent" that focusses on teaching Y Generation students was released. Donna conducts professional development for teachers.
