 Biography

Dr Ian Patterson is an Associate Professor in the School of Tourism and Leisure Management at the University of Queensland, Ipswich campus.

Associate Professor Ian Patterson is the Head of the Sport and Leisure within the School of Tourism and Leisure Management. He delivers courses in leisure, recreation and sport management and is currently the principal supervisor of eight PhD students and associate supervisor of three other PhD students. Associate Professor Patterson completed his PhD at the University of Oregon in 1991 and has since published over 70 scholarly publications including 50 refereed journal articles, two text books, book chapters, conference papers and consultancy reports. He is primarily interested in the researching the leisure, sport and tourism experiences of people with disabilities and older adults He was a Chief Investigator for the ARC funded Senior Physical Activity Recreation Choices project with The Australasian Centre on Ageing, Brisbane City Council and Ipswich City Council. Associate Professor Patterson is also a Co-Editor of Annals of Leisure Research and Associate Editor of two international journals; Schole: A Journal of Leisure and Recreation Education and the Journal of Park and Recreation Administration.
