 Postgraduate Projects Available

Post-Doctoral project  Calcium transporters in disease
Suited to a non-UQ graduate with a background in pharmacology, pharmacy, physiology, molecular biology or biochemsitry

The project involves investigating specific transporters of calcium ions, and their possible roles in a variety of diseases.

Keywords:  calcium, post-doc, post-doctoral, drug discovery, pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry

Hons/MPhil/PhD  Identification and characterization of novel ion and drug transporters and the design of novel high throughput screening assays
Suited to students interested in a career in biomedical research or the pharmaceutical industry.

High throughput screening is increasingly using calcium as a measure to identify biologically active compounds. Our laboratory is developing new techniques which may help identify new drugs.

Sponsored by the Society of Biomolecular Screening.
Keywords:  calcium, screening, assay, HTS, drug discovery

Hons/MPhil/PhD  Physiological regulation and the role of calcium transporters
Suited to students interested in a career in biomedical research.

How calcium transporters in the cell function and what their specific roles in biological pathways are is not fully understood. This project seeks to investigate calcium transporters using molecular biology techniques and advanced techniques for the measurement of intracellular calcium.

Hons/MPhil/PhD  Calcium homeostasis in cancer: identification and characterization of novel drug targets
Project suited a student interested in a career in biomedical research and/or pharmaceutical industry research and development

Our laboratory is studying the role of some calcium transporters in cancer. These studies have implications for the discovery of new drugs for cancer treatment.
