I have a strong interest in the role and control of inflammation in diseases processes. I graduated from UQ School of Veterinary Science in 1987 and have developed several research interests in the area of veterinary pharmacology. My early postdoctoral studies involved investigation of heat and humidity which lead to my field studies towards the Atlanta Olympic Games. An extension of this research led into equine thermoregulation and the mechanisms of sweating, including anhidrosis. My recent positions include:
NHMRC Research Officer at the Princess Alexandria hospital studying hepatic uptake of drugs
Senior Veterinary Officer at the Racing Science Centre regulating drug use in racing animals
Staff Veterinarian at the Brisbane Animal Emergency Centre.
I am also active in the Pharmacology Chapter of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, being Chief Examiner for pharmacology in 2004.
My current research interests are:
(1) Pulmonary function during exercise and disease – with emphasis on nitric oxide, oxidative stress and exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH)
(2) Equine thermoregulation and anhidrosis
(3) Thee role of surfactant in pulmonary and synovial surfaces
(4) Transdermal medication in companion animals
(5) Teaching and Learning in Veterinary Science Students
