 Biography

Dr John McNair’s research interests include 19th-century Russian literature; Russian-Australian cultural exchange; and the literature of self-writing.

John McNair received his education at the Universities of Canterbury, Edinburgh and St Petersburg (then Leningrad). He has taught Russian at universities in the UK and Ireland and is a senior lecturer in Russian and convenor of the Russian program.

His current research projects include a literary biography of P.D.Boborykin; and an examination of Australian writers in Russia .

His other activities include:
• General administration of Russian Program, including community liaison and study abroad;
• past Vice-President, Australia and New Zealand Slavists' Association;
• co-editor (since 2004), Australian Slavonic and East European Studies
