Bernard McKenna's research interest include (a) Analysing discourse (how language creates and maintains particular realities and relationships): particularly political rhetoric and corporate communication; (b) Developing mechanisms for community participation in corporate and social decision making; and (c) Enhancing good management practice by applying wisdom principles. Bernard McKenna is a Senior Lecturer in the UQ Business School. Prior to his appointment in 2002 he was in QUT's Business Faculty for nine years. His academic teaching background covers communication theory, corporate and scientific communication, political communication, organisational communication, and business ethics at graduate and undergraduate levels. He is also an active researcher with publications in national and international journals. His diverse research areas include technical, political, and managerialist discourse; professional writing; and wisdom and knowledge management in the new economy. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Technical Writing and Communication as well as Critical Discourse Studies, and regularly reviews for Prometheus. Bernard currently is working on two ARC Linkage Grants: one deals with the role of communication in community building by mining companies; the other is concerned with citizen involvement in public policy (waste management).
