	Biography

Geoff is a leading Australian sociologist with interests in rural and regional sociology, globalisation/localisation, natural resource management, and governance

Prior to accepting the position of Professor of Sociology and Head of the School of Social Science at The University of Queensland in 2002, he was Foundation Professor of Sociology (1992-2002) and Executive Director, Institute for Sustainable Regional Development (1998-2002) at Central Queensland University. Before this he was Associate Professor of Sociology and Foundation Director, Centre for Rural Social Research, Charles Sturt University.He has been a program leader with the CRC for Sustainable Sugar Production and a member of the management committee of the Fitzroy Basin Association.
