Dr Karam Kostner is an Associate Professor of Medicine for the Cardiac Imaging Group. Dr. Karam Maximilian Kostner is a lipidologist and cardiologist, currently working as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Kostner has been involved in lipid research over the past 15 years, his interests include lipid lowering therapy especially extracorporeal treatments of hyperlipidemia, lipoprotein (a) and non invasive methods to detect atherosclerosis.
Dr. Kostner has published approximately 100 papers, review articles and several book chapters. He is an editorial board member and section editor of the European Journal Clinical Investigation and Austrian Journal of Cardiology, as well as a regular reviewer for: Atherosclerosis, Clinica Chimica Acta, ATVB, European Heart Journal, Cardiovascular Research, Heart, Journal of Clinical Apheresis and others.
Dr. Kostner is a grant reviewer for the NHMRC, National Heart Foundation of Australia and several European funding agencies. He is in the cardiovascular advisory boards of Pfizer, Merck Sharpe and Dome, Sanofi-Aventis and Queensland Health. He is also a member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, the European and International Atherosclerosis Society, the European Society of Cardiology and the Austrian Society of Cardiology.
Dr. Karam Kostner was selected by the World Scientist Forum as the "Eminent Scientist of the Year 2006." This is an International award based on his unique contribution in pathophysiology and Clinical Apheresis.
