Dr Jonsson's primary research interests are in bovine health and production, particularly immunogenetics and the control of cattle ticks. Dr Jonsson graduated from Sydney University Veterinary School in 1987 and worked as a rural veterinarian in mixed dairy, beef, equine and small animal practices on the NSW south and mid-north coasts. In 1995 he commenced a PhD program at the University of Queensland in postpartum ovarian function in dairy cows. He worked as a senior research scientist at the Queensland DPI&F Mutdapilly Dairy Research Station from 1996 to 1998, when he moved to Glasgow as lecturer in farm animal medicine and production in the Glasgow University Veterinary School. In 2001 he returned to the University of Queensland as senior lecturer in reproduction and then in cattle medicine, as well as the director of the Animal Genetics Laboratory. He is now Director of Research for the Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science, and maintains a research program in bovine health and genetics, with a particular focus on immunogenetics and the control of tick infestations on cattle.
