Dr Wan-ping Hu is the Geochemistry laboratory manager. She is responsible for the operation of ICP-OES and ICP-MS on the analysis of geological and environmental samples for their major and trace elements. Dr Wan-Ping Hu received her BSc (Hons) and PhD from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where she studied molecular beams with Professor Peter Harland. She then carried out postdoctoral research with Professor Stephen Price at University College London, on the development of Position Sensitive Coincidence Time-of-flight Mass Spectrometer (PSCO-TOFMS). She returned to New Zealand in 2005 and worked on the maintenance of MarinLit database, in addition to the development of medical applications of SIFT-MS as the Principal Scientist (Medical application) for Syft technologies Ltd. She recently joined the School of Earth Science in 2009 as the Geochemistry laboratory manager. Her research expertise and interests are as below:
ĦE Ionic and Molecular beams, Mass spectrometry (Quad, PSCO-TOFMS, SIFT-MS, ICP-MS), Energy analyzers, Ion optics, Optical Emission Spectrometry, Physical and Analytical chemistry
ĦE Method development and instrument optimization for the analysis of geological and environmental samples
ĦE Trace element geochemistry
ĦE Environmental impact assessment and monitoring
