 Biography

Julie Hepworth has research and tertiary teaching experience in social and behavioural sciences applied to primary health care, clinical experience as a health psychologist, and a PhD in psychology.

Over the last 16 years Julie has taught social and behavioural sciences to nursing, medical, and psychology students, led the coordination of postgraduate research students, and conducted research on chronic disease self-management, young people’s health and health science theories and methods.

In 2007 she was awarded an International Visiting Research Fellowship by the University of Sydney to research health service provision for a marginalized population in Sydney. She is the recipient of additional awards, is an Editorial Board Member for Critical Public Health, and a peer reviewer for several international health journals. Julie has published numerous book chapters, articles and a book, and holds an Honorary academic position as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at The University of Sydney.
Her research on chronic disease self-management introduces a new decision-making tool that aims to improve patient health outcomes.
