Dr Hardy's research focuses on the relationship between education and society. Current research explores educators' responses to the broader socio-political contexts in which their work is undertaken. Dr Hardy has a particular interest in researching teacher professional development/teacher learning policy and practice. He has also undertaken inquiries into the nature of academic work under current conditions in Australian university settings. Dr Hardy researches and teaches in the areas of initial and continuing teacher education at the School of Education, University of Queensland. Recent work has included an analysis of the conditions of teachers' work and learning with colleagues as part of an international research consortium involving researchers from Australia, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
From 2012-2014, Dr Hardy is engaging in full-time research supported by an ARC (Australian Research Council) Fellowship. This work focuses upon teacher PD/learning practices in the state of Queensland.
Since 2004, Dr Hardy has been a member of the 'Pedagogy, Education and Praxis' international research consortium, involving researchers from Australia (Charles Sturt, Griffith University, and University of Queensland), UK (University of Sheffield), Sweden (University of Gothenburg), Norway (University of Tromso), and Finland (Abo Akademi). This group is primarily engaged in researching and theorising professional practice, including professional development, throughout the teaching career in primary, secondary, tertiary and other adult education settings.
Dr Hardy also holds an adjunct position at Charles Sturt University.
