Professor Critchley's main research interest is photosynthesis in green leaves, especially chloroplast ultrastructure and chlorophyll fluorescence, the structure and function of photosystem II and the interaction between electron transport and carbon fixation processes. Research Projects address questions about chloroplast structure in different tissues, dynamic changes in thylakoid membrane structure and stromal enzyme organization, and relationships between photosystem II function and leaf chlorophyll fluorescence.
Professor Critchley is a member of the Plant Physiology and Biochemistry research group.
Photosynthesis Research Projects: - Chloroplast ultrastructure studied by confocal laser scanning microscopy
- Regulation of protein turnover in chloroplasts
- The photosynthetic apparatus in the dark
- Heterogeneous photosystem II
- Development of new chlorophyll fluorescence methods
