 Biography

Jason's primary research area is in the field of substance use disorders, including psychological models of addiction, genetics, craving, anticraving agents, substance dependence treatment outcomes and quality of life in addiction

Jason Connor is an Associate Professor in Health and Clinical Psychology and Director, Centre for Youth Substance Abuse Research at The University of Queensland. He is a registered psychologist, Member of the Australian Psychological Society and has specialist membership in the Health and Clinical Colleges. He commenced his academic career in 1998 after being awarded a National Health and Medical Research (NH&MRC) doctoral scholarship for research into substance use disorders. Since moving from full-time clinical practice to academia, he has successfully combined teaching responsibilities with research. His main research focus is substance use disorders. Recent publications have included identifying specific genetic loci associated with alcohol dependence, alcohol dependence treatment outcomes, the efficacy of anticraving medications, measurement of alcohol craving, novel psychological models of problem drinking and quality of life in addiction. His projects are funded by current NH&MRC and Australian Research Council grants. In 2007 he was awarded the Australian Psychological Society Early Career Research Award. Jason has an appointment with Queensland Health and continues to offer clinical services.
