Currently focusing her PhD on the cross-cultural meaning of youth suicide and working part-time on spirituality and suicide, her main interests are in Suicidology (especially suicide in young people), the ethno-cultural aspects of mental illness and well-being, Anthropology, and qualitative methodology (focus groups, Ethnography). Her theoretical background derives from the Phenomenological-Constructivist and Symbolic Interationist approach. After a Bachelor (Honours) in Clinical Psychology in University of Padua (Italy, supported from the ESU grant for a period of 5 years) she moved in Australia for training in research in Suicidology at AISRAP Griffith University (Brisbane). Returned in Italy to work as a clinical psychologist, she also attended a GC in Data Analysis in University of Florence. In 2003 she won the UQIPRS and IPRS scolarships and at the moment she is enrolled at the III year of PhD in The University of Queensland, School of Medicine, Dep. of Psychiatry, under the supervision of Prof. G. Martin (The University of Queensland), Ass. Prof. R. Schweitzer (Queensland University of Technology) and Prof. A. Marsella (University of Hawaii). For her PhD, she is conducting a research project on the cross-cultural meaning of suicide in Indian, Italian and Australian university students. For this project, she is using both quantitative (questionnaire) and qualitative (focus groups and open-ended questions) methods. The project has been partially supported also by the UQ Travel Award.
The field where to locate her main expertise and interests goes in the intersection between Suicidology, spirituality/meaning of life and Anthropology.
She is also working part-time at The University of Queensland, Department of Psychiatry (Prof. G. Martin), on the link between spirituality (and meaning of life) and suicide.
She recently published a paper about youth suicide in “Psicologia dell’Eta’ Evolutiva” , a research paper in "Rivista di Psichiatria" and is co-author of the WHO chapter "Suicidal behaviour in Italy" (2004). A literature review about the ethno-cultural aspects of youth suicide is under submission.
She gave seminars in Gandhi College (Trivandrum, India) and University of Padua (Italy).
