 Biography

Dr Leslie Chan's research focuses on the production of baculovirus biopesticides.

Dr Leslie Chan holds both B.E. and Ph.D degrees in Chemical Engineering, and is experienced in innovative process development, project management and fundamental research in the biotechnological field. In particular, he has multi-disciplinary expertise in the application of engineering fundamentals, statistics and mathematical modeling to optimise complex biological systems. His current research focus is in the design and scale-up of fed-batch processes for maximising the yield of virus occlusion bodies produced using insect cell cultures, at bioreactor volumes of up to 100 litres. The goal of this research is to develop the world’s first economically viable fermentation-derived virus insecticide – a ‘green’ alternative to chemical pesticides.
