| | • Contribution to the 3-dimensional solution NMR structure determination of the low-density lipoprotein receptor and its interaction with apolipoprotein E. (2 NHMRC grants, 5 papers). Using a modular approach we have characterised most of the LDLr binding and EGF-homology domains, and demonstrated the importance of Ca2+ binding properties. (collaboration with R. Smith, P. Kroon)
• Elucidation of structures of various natural products from marine organisms and plants. (9 papers)
• Contribution to development of new high-resolution and microimaging NMR probes (Syndicated R&D program grant) leading to spin-off company formation (Spin Systems Qld) and successful bid for AusIndustry R&D Start award. Responsible for project management and report preparation and participated in establishment contract negotiations with AusIndustry, Uniquest and Minter Ellison. Commercialisation outcomes contributed to CMR’s total production sales of almost $2m in 2001.
• Development of novel NMR pulse sequences for application in spectral editing and coherence selection, including the independent development of homonuclear and heteronuclear coherence pathway selection with the use of pulsed field gradients – a technique now omnipresent in modern high-resolution NMR spectroscopy. (6 papers, 1 grant)
• Pioneering technique development in localised in vivo spectroscopy, including methods for volume selection, demonstration of their in vivo application, localised spectral editing and localised two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy. (23 papers, 3 grants)
