Rodolfo Baggio is lecturer at Bocconi University, Milan, Italy and is undertaking his PhD research in network analysis of tourism destinations with the School of Tourism, UQ. Rodolfo Baggio was born in Naples, Italy (1951) and holds a degree of "Laurea" in Physics from the University of Milan (Italy, 1976).
After having performed research and teaching activities in Astrophysics and Radioastronomy, he joined IBM Italy in 1978. He has occupied several professional positions in the area of large systems, with main activities in information systems design, marketing and managerial education. From 1985 to 1987 he has worked in Germany (IBM Mainz plant) as marketing support manager. Back to Italy he held managerial positions in technical and marketing areas. In 1991 Rodolfo is at the Merzario Group (logistics and transportation) as Director of the Information Systems department.
Since 1999 Rodolfo is lecturer at the Bocconi University (Milan) where he teaches courses in Computer Science and coordinates the Information and Communication Technologies area at the Master in Economics and Tourism.
Rodolfo is deputy director of the GTAT Tourism Policy and Strategy postgraduate courses organized by the World Tourism Organization – Themis Foundation and has been visiting professor at the EuroArab Management School (Granada, Spain), where he has taught at the Master in Tourism Management (course held in Beirut, Lebanon and Aqaba, Jordan).
Rodolfo has carried out research and consulting activities in the field of information technologies and tourism for private and public organizations on the uses of information and communication technologies in the tourism field with a special focus on web engineering, design, content authoring and web metrics. More recently, his research interests have centered on the analysis of the social and technological network structures underlying the tourism activities.
He has held several lectures in national and international conferences and authored scientific and popular articles and books.
He has served as reviewer for the European Conference in Information Systems (ECIS) 2005 and ENTER 2006, the IFITT's (International Federation for Information Technology and Travel & Tourism) annual conference and for CAUTHE 2007. Recently he has been appointed to the chair of the Information Technology and Tourism track at the next IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) World Computer Congress (Milan, 2008).
Rodolfo is founding member of Società Internet, the Italian chapter of the Internet Society and member of the Società Italiana di Fisica and of the International Federation for Information Technology and Travel & Tourism and of the UN World Tourism Organization Education Council.
