 Biography

Dr Prudence Ahrens’s research interests include western and Pacific cultural exchange, history and theory of photography and fashion and design theory.

Prue's research has resulted in book publication and articles in the international, peer reviewed journals History of Photography, Third Text and Art History. Her exhibition of American photography in the South Pacific, Tour of Paradise, was exhibited internationally with public programs developed for the Tjibaou Cultural Centre and the Australian Embassy Washington DC. Prue regularly writes book and exhibition reviews for the Journal of Paific History (Routledge) and Eyeline, and is Pictures Editor for the Pacific Focus Series published by Cambridge Scholar's Press. Prue is currently researching a sole authored book on Modernism and the Exotic, and is developing a mixed media exhibition on the transpacific growth of modernity in partnership with the Presidio Trust, San Francisco. Her most recent research interests include glamour theory and the interpretation of children's fashion in the twentieth century.
