2009: A year of fun, adventure and good times on rock.
Welcome back to uni for yet another semester of climbing, bouldering, hiking and adventure, (oh, and study!). This semester is going to be BIG! As our newer members are transforming into competant sport climbers and our more experienced members are becoming climbing machines, there's going to be some serious sendage. Also, lot's of adventure climbing is on the agenda at locations including Girraween, Mt Barney, Frog Buttress and Mt Tibrogargan. Climb On!!!
Success!!! Club Trip: Urbenville 28.09.09 to 30.09.09
Our club trip to Urbenville was faaaantastic! Everyone had a great time climbing at the pines and (some even loved it at the) crown! Some of the highlights of the trip were Michelle and Jawn completing some of their first leads up to about grade 17, the Chris's getting back into leading, Paul and Jeff climbing every route at the pines 24 and under, and Clem's ascent of her first 25 (life is not all ha ha he he). Special thanks goes out to fletch for spending quite a bit of time helping our new and emerging leaders out with sport climbing. See you at the next big club trip - bluey's!!!
NOTICE: KANGAROO POINT CLIMBING
Just a quick note to newer members of the club that week-night Kangaroo Point climbing relies on someone setting up the ropes for everyone to climb on. This task is completely voluntary and thus relies on the whole club pitching in to ensure the ropes are up for everyone to climb on each week. It is now week five and our experienced club members would like to lead climb, rather than spend 2 hours of their night setting up, supervising and packing up.
It is also a good idea to start learning about different knots and anchors in preparation for our blue mountains trip at the end of semester.
If you do not know how to set up the ropes, there are people in the club that will be more than happy to spend time with you teaching the necessary skills. In particular, get in touch with our president (Damien) here.
Success!!! Club Trip: Brooyar 30th of June until 5th of July.
Brooyar was a great success with heaps of sport climbing enjoyed by all. It took a day or two to get back into the swing of climbing (after exams!) but once everyone warmed up it went off!!! There was lot's of sendage, with some of the highlights being Dave's send of "Shake and Bake", Tom's send of "Dreamcatcher", Jeff and Clem's send of "Herbal Tea" and many many more... Lot's of easier routes were also ascended in stylish lycra outfits, even superman himself made an appearance! Not only was the climbing awesome, we also kept the UQMC tradition alive with a fire every night. If you missed this trip you will most certainly be very jealous after reading the trip report, which can be seen here.
