We’re searching for a great idea. An idea that will provoke discussion, challenge our world view, and inspire the UQ community. Why? Because great public art starts with a great idea. Because great ideas change people and it is people like you who will change the world.

The UQ Creative Challenge gives you the unique opportunity to be involved in the inception and development of a thought provoking public art work for display on your campus. Get involved by sharing an idea that has changed your world, or voting for your favourite entry in the People’s Choice Award.

Finalists will collaborate with a contemporary Australian artist to conceptualise an artwork.

How to Enter

Submit your application online with a 30 second video or a two page PDF with up to 500 words. Applications are now closed.

The 2016 theme is ‘Ideas change people: people change the world.’ Ideas have the power to inspire, provoke debate, challenge the status quo, and change the worldview of those around us. Great ideas are central to creating engaging, thought provoking public art.

Your great idea could be challenging, empowering, provocative, or inspirational. It could take the form of a formula, law of nature, statistic, quote, concept, event, experience or even a value central to who you are.  Or it could be something entirely different…

Students are required to submit a 30 second video OR a two page PDF (include images, diagrams or up to 500 words) explaining:

  • Why this idea inspired you, and how has it influenced you emotionally, intellectually, creatively, cognitively or socially;
  • The impact this idea might have on others and any implications;
  • Why this idea should be conceptualised in a public art work.

Entry is open to all currently enrolled University of Queensland students. Students need to remain enrolled for the duration of the competition.

Submissions can be made individually or in groups of up to four.

Video submissions must first be uploaded to YouTube.

Applications are now closed.
