Students can select courses from one Waseda School/Department only.

  • Japanese Language Program (JLP): Search Japanese Language courses in the course catalogue. Type "LANJ" in the Keywords search box, select the correct Term and limit the School to CJL (Center for Japanese Language). You are advised to select "Japanese courses for International Student", including Comprehensive Japanese (available at Level 1 to 6) worth 5 credits. Also, student who enrolled in JLP, should avoid taking courses from other schools.

Students can commence the JLP in either semester and can choose to study for 1 semester or 2 semesters.

Waseda accepts Japanese national students, but they have to complete at least 12 years of school education or the equivalent in countries other than Japan.      

Applications to School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, School of Creative Science and Engineering, School of Advanced Science and Engineering:

  • In addition to Japanese language proficiency, English language proficiency is accepted (however, Japanese language requirement (N1 of Japanese Language Proficiency Test) is still required for some departments/courses);
  • Applicant has to complete at least 2 years study at UQ before commencing the program at Waseda. 
  • The applicant must not be in the final semester of study for their exchange semester.
  • Students may study for 1 or 2 semesters, and may start in either semester 1 or 2.
  • Students must attend more than 2/3 of the classes during semester in order to qualify to pass.
  • Students with a Japanese passport may study at Waseda, however you must be enrolled and currently studying at UQ.

Applications to School of International Liberal Studies (one-year exchange program, one semester only sutdy is offered for April admission): Japanese Language requirement (completed at least one term of Japanese language study) is no longer required.

In addition to Japanese language proficiency, English language proficiency is now accepted at School of Social Sciences (September admissions only) and School of Commerce (very limited number of courses conducted in English).
