Doctoral candidates are eligible for exchange, coordinated by the UQ Graduate School.  Please contact the UQ Graduate School for more information.

TUM offers free German language courses for international students during the semester (3 ECTS each - grade will appear on transcript). More information here.
Intensive German language courses (at an additional cost) are offered in the two weeks immediately before the start of lectures.  A pre-study course is also available.

For other fields of study, only those students who have an advanced German language ability (B2/C1) will be considered.

Please note that the options listed on this webpage should be used as a guide only. Additional discipline areas may be available. For current information about fields of study, course selection and language proficiency requirements, please check the host university's website.

Restricted Fields of Study: Exchange student have to take the majority (60%) of their courses from the department they apply for. The rest of their courses can be chosen from other TUM departments.
Attention: Exchange students need to take into account that there might be time clashes and that we have 3 campuses. There might be problems in making the schedule if they need to go to another campus in Garching or Weihenstephan.

Cost of Housing in Munich (very limited housing options outside of student dorms)

German health insurance is compulsory for exchange students. One cannot register at TUM without proof of German national insurance. Approx. 80 Euro per month.

TUMi provides an orientation programme to help newly arrived international students.

2-week Intensive German language courses available for exchange students prior to the semester (at an additional cost).

Architecture students are considered bilateral exchange students - therfore do not have guaranteed accommodation.

Other disciplines are considered TUM exchange students.

The International Office has reserved a number of dormitory rooms for TUM exchange students only.  Accommodation information can be found here.
