Flash Mob

April18

Hi guys!

It’s getting chilly! Well, it’s still over 20 degrees, but I’m so used to 30 now - so it feels kind of cold. I see pictures of my friends home in Oslo (where it is spring-time now) being so excited that the sun is shining and that they don’t have to wear triple layers of wool. So I guess I’m all right!

Last weekend I went to Byron Bay with the QUEST society. You can find their Facebook group here !
It was an amazing couple of days. We left early Friday morning to Nimbin for lunch, and then to Byron. I’ll tell you some more as soon as I locate my photos!

This week the students of Journalism and Communication arranged a Flash Mob in the Great Court. A Flash Mob is a well planned event that takes place in the public without announcing anything before it starts. We downloaded a MP3-file with instructions and everybody plugged in their headphones and did what the recording told us to. I made a short video on my iPhone, so you could see!

UQ Flash Mob

This is not the official video, but I will link it when it is ready!

Time to finish my assignments and clean my apartment. My boyfriend is coming to visit all the way from Norway, so I want everything to be perfect before I go to the airport to pick him up tonight.

Until next time,
HA EN STRÅLENDE HELG!

My Favorite Spot

The beach!!!

The beach!!!

Today I went to Surfers Paradise by myself. I’ve been here plenty of times with my mates, and it’s really an awesome place. Long, white beaches and skyscrapers really give you the Miami-feeling. At UQ I study four different courses, which equals to a full-time study. But I still have Wednesdays off, and that’s why I decided to go to Surfers Paradise (Yes, that’s the name). I brought my books and did some of my readings on the train there (it takes about 2 hours each way from Brisbane) and some more readings at the esplanade. I love my new study-spot!

Perfect!

Perfect!

So kids, remember to stay in school and don’t do drugs!

Cheers!

My birthday

April12

Yesterday was my 23d birthday (getting old…). My roomies woke me up with cupcakes and the Norwegian birthday song, and that was a great start of a perfect day. But then I had seven assignments for my Public Relations Portfolio to finish, so I had to get my move on. After finishing my assignments at Uni, I met up with a bunch of friends in West End for dinner and drinks. We had a great time, West End is perfect for meeting up with friends!

Going to Byron with Quest next week end! Stay tuned for heaps of fun :)

Pool Party!

April12

Aloha!

Aloha!

Through Quest (a student society at UQ) I’ve made heaps of new friends. And this Friday we all went to visit Noinin from Holland for a pool party. The theme of the night was Hawaiian beach resorts, and the flower bands were a must-have! Theme parties are so much fun, and wearing a costume is a real ice-breaker. We also had a Pirate Party some weeks ago – with amazing costumes!

O hoy!

Too much grog?

Too much grog?

I went to the Valley with my friends to find stuff for our costumes at the second hand shops there. It’s cheap, it’s fun and it’s very “green”! Australia is all about being green - taking care of the environment and the nature. So go eco!

Cheers!

Life in Brissy

March24

Hi guys!
So I’m one of the International Bloggers, nice to meet you all!
My name is Vetle, and I am a 22 year old boy from Norway. I’m exchanging from the University of Oslo where I’m studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Communication. Here at UQ I do Public Relations, Journalism, Organisational Behaviour and Foundations of Marketing - all electives. And I really like it!

This blog will be about everyday life in West End where I live, as well as life at Uni, life in Brisbane, Queensland and Australia in general. I hope you’ll enjoy!

Accomodation in Brisbane

Where to stay? How much to pay? There were so many questions in my head when trying to find a decent place to stay. In the first two weeks, I stayed at a share house in Kelvin Grove, which is kind of far away. We payed 200$/week, which is way too much. If you want to live close to the city, I would reckon 180$ would be appropriate. I share a room with my friend, and we pay 115$, all included. There are plenty of apartments and share houses, so don’t rush into anything - take your time and have several looks around the city. West End is close to both campus and the city, but because of the floods we’re not able to use the CityCat to get to school (a river-ferry). But there are buses!

That’s all for today guys, I’m off to Uni for my PR and Journalism-lectures - and then a healthy session at the gym.

Cheers, remember to stay in shape!
