Monique Pierpoint - Outgoing Norway

The Adventure Begins

September2

After almost 6 months of planning and preparation, the day had come. Visas were approved, accommodation organised, and money had been carefully saved! My bags were packed, my flight was awaiting and, despite being extremely nervous, I was also feeling extremely excited. So after saying a tearful goodbye to my family at the airport, my 35-hour flight and exchange to the University of Oslo began!!!

Having never been overseas before, I was feeling extremely anxious, but, by the time my flight landed at Gardermoen Airport, Oslo, was a bit too tired to care really. I checked into my hotel for the night, knowing that the next day I would have to find my way into a city I had never been to before, and then to my accomodation, in a country where I do not speak the language. It was confronting to say the least, however I knew it would be a valuable learning curve.

The next morning, after getting lost numerous times, but with the assistance of helpful locals, I was able to catch the T-Bane (subway) and find my student village. I met my two flatmates, and then attempted grocery shopping, which, considering I speak no Norwegian, was interesting to say the least. However after 45 minutes, I managed to get what I needed. I also managed to go for a quick look around the city, to try to get my bearings a little, and was absolutely awestruck by the beauty and antiquity of Oslo, with its cobblestone streets and Royal Palace in the middle of the city!!!

Having only been in Norway 3 days, I still have a lot to learn and explore, however I am loving my exchange so far!

Stay tuned for more adventures!!!
