Full time load equivalent:

Semester 2, 2013 and before: 
8 credits per semester

From semester 1, 2014 onwards: 

  • Japanese language courses: 8 credits per semester (15 contact hours per week). These courses requires students to complete many assignments. 
  • Non-Japanese language courses: 16 credits per semester (12 contact hours per week). Sophia University does not recommend this option to exchange students. 
  • Both Japanese language and non-Japanese language courses: One 4-credit language course + two other regular courses (13.5 contact hours per week)
Fields of Study Available:

Japanese Language Program (Intensive Track)

  • Offers four-level intensive courses at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, designed for students whose main purpose of coming to Japan is to mainly study Japanese.
  • Lowest level requires students have completed at least one semester of Japanese before studying at Sophia

    Note: if students have studied 150 hours of Japanese before exchange, they may enrol in the Intensive Japanese program.

    Other course options (Faculty of Liberal Arts has courses in Comparative Culture, International Business and Economics, and Social Studies offered in English, course syllabus is availabe through here; Syllabus inquiry - user guide is available to download from here (click on 10. Exchange students are advised not to study foreign language courses other than Japanese unless approved by your UQ faculty.
