UQ Program: Bachelor of Economics

Having just completed my year long exchange to the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada I can definitely say that it was the best experience I’ve ever had.

I’m a second year student studying Economics and finding enough courses was a breeze, and they seemed to follow a pretty similar structure to courses at UQ which made it a lot easier to get right into the study. But, to be honest study wasn’t my only focus of exchange because there was so much amazing stuff to see and do in Vancouver.  Being a two hour bus ride away from the snow in Whistler, having several beaches on campus and 4 campus pubs made it difficult to remember that I was actually there to study! My advice for things to do is to get a season pass for Whistler/Blackcomb, go to the Pit Pub on a Wednesday, and while it’s easy to stay on campus try to get out and travel on the weekends. I did trips to Vancouver Island, Seattle, and Banff, and after school finished all over Canada, California and Central America and loved them all.

There were many great aspects of exchange to UBC but by far the best had to be the people. I lived on residence and the girls I lived with were fantastic and really helped me out as this was my first experience living out of home. I now have friends (and couches to sleep on) all over the world and I really feel the diversity of people and things I learnt on exchange have helped me mature and grow as a person.

Final comment: Go on exchange. Everyone should do an exchange. It’s fantastic.
