1. Kyoto University International Education Program (KUINEP)

KUINEP offers a combination of the following: 

  • At least two KUINEP core subjects
  • Courses taught in English offered by The Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS): 2017 course list and syllabi here, 2017 KUINEP course list here 
  • Japanese language courses offered by International Center (a maximum of seven courses, each course worth 1 credit)
  • (Regular courses taught in Japanese in faculties)

Japanese language proficiency is not required for KUINEP but students should acquire a basic knowledge of Japanese to ensure smooth transition to life in Japan. 

 

2. Kyoto University General Exchange Program (GEP)

Regular courses in faculties are taught in Japanese, so students must have sufficient Japanese language proficiency (JLPT N1). 

 

Restricted Fields of Study: KUINEP program available to undergraduate students only. 

GEP program available to postgraduates, but a high level of Japanese is required.

  • Faculty of Engineering
  • Faculty of Agriculture

It is not possible to change the faculty once students have been affiliated, so please choose the first and second choices carefully when applying to Kyoto University.
