Kate Clouston: University of Glasgow(Semester 2 ,2010)

UQ Program: Bachelors of Economics/Arts

Studying at the University of Glasgow was an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life and one where my only regret was not staying longer. At UQ I am half way through my Economics/Arts dual degree, but since I was studying in Scotland I took advantage of my major in History to take Scottish history courses.

The campus of UG was absolutely incredible – it’s basically a gorgeous old castle! It is also right in the middle of the West End, which is full of bars, pubs, restaurants and heaps of students. I took history courses while I was there and found them really interesting, the Faculty of History was very helpful in terms of helping me find equivalent courses when some of my pre-approved ones were cancelled.

I lived in university accommodation and it was a great way to meet people and form friendships. The University and most of the University accommodation is in a great part of town, and there are a large number of students who live around this area.

I also managed to spend some time in the Highlands, which was absolutely amazing. The scenery is insane and the people are lovely – it’s worth the trip just to experience a bit of the famous Scottish hospitality! I really enjoyed my time in Glasgow because of the amazing friends that I met, the friendly locals and the fantastic range of activities that the city has to offer! I would recommend to anyone applying for an exchange to seriously consider staying the whole year – trust me, you won’t want to leave!
