Jennifer Lin: University of Manchester (Semester 1, 2010)

UQ Program: Bachelor of Business Managament/Commerce

Us: Manchester nights out are the best nights outI am currently enrolled in a dual degree of business management and commerce. I did 6 subjects at the Manchester Business School. Going on this exchange has helped me grow as a person and it has also helped me grow knowledge wise.

Being situated in Europe, Manchester is a prime location for students around the globe so you are bound to meet people from different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, values etc. Because of this, my exchange was a great learning experience on a day to day basis. Not only did I experience one culture (the English culture), but I can confidently say that I had experienced at least 10 different cultures on this exchange. The people you meet are definitely the best part of going abroad.

Manchester is also a student city so you won’t be falling short on the party life. Student nights are Monday and Thursday nights. Although I would say every night is student night apart from Sunday nights. Drinks are very cheap in Manchester starting from 90p! Pubs are also a popular place for socializing.

Cinque terre: a moment of absolute freedom in Cinque Terre, ItalyOn the travelling side of things, flights around Europe are relatively cheap. There were round trips going from Manchester to Prague for 20 pounds including tax. So about $35 at the time! I’ve visited over 20 different cities in 13 different countries during my stay abroad. It is definitely the most amazing experience of my life and even now it still feels like a dream.

The academic system at the Manchester Business School is similar to that of UQ, so it was easy getting the hang of things. They don’t have as many tutorials so you need to make sure you tune in for lectures. Also expect a few 100% final examinations!

I do recommend studying abroad in Manchester.  I’ve made life-long friends and travelled across Western Europe with this bunch of great people. I couldn’t be happier.

P.S. The bus system in Manchester is amazing!
P.P.S. For the ladies, European fashion/clothing is sooo much better
