Geoff Hoskins Bocconi University (Semester 2,2010)

UQ Program: Bachelors Business Management/Commerce

Studying in Milan was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I encourage anyone who is considering it to just go ahead and do it. Bocconi University is a renowned and prestigious business university within Italy and Europe and the opportunity to study there for a semester for me was one I did not want to miss. At UQ I study a dual degree in Business Management and Commerce and have just completed my 3rd year. The fact that I had saved my electives made the course selection process much easier and allowed me more flexibility and power over the courses I wanted to do and the timetable I ended up with.Celebrating with some friends at our favourite Italian restaurant

In my opinion, living in Italy as opposed to some other exchange destination was far more rewarding because of the rich culture and vastly different lifestyle they live; the Italians’ passion for food, wine and football can be very infectious to name a few things. This is not to say that it wasn’t also frustrating at times when things wouldn’t work or the language barrier got in the way but those things  make the whole experience all the more worthwhile and unforgettable.

5 Top Tips:
- Pick one of the local soccer teams to support and go watch them play at San Siro whenever you can.
- Bring your best clothes; everyone in Milan is dressed up all the time.
- Join the international student clubs; they organize trips and throw parties 5 nights a week.
- Save/borrow as much money as you can, you can never have enough money in Europe.
- Do the Italian language crash course when you arrive; knowing some Italian comes in handy and you meet plenty of people early on.
