If you've picked a university for your UQ Abroad experience that does not teach in English, you will have to show that you are proficient in the language of instruction before you can be approved to study there on exchange.
Some countries where this may be the case are Chile, Mexico, Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, China or South Korea. If you will be studying in another language whilst on exchange, complete an Assessment of Language Proficiency form (pdf:29KB) and submit it with your application.
What does it mean 'to be proficient' in a foreign language? Essentially to be proficient in the language means that you have studied it at university level for a minimum of 2 years prior to going on exchange. However have a look at the Language Proficiency Assessment grid (pdf:38KB). This a chart indicating different levels of language proficiency. In order to have sufficient language skills to study in a foreign language, you need to have achieved a minimum level of B2 on this chart. Even with the level of B2 you are strongly recommended to take an intensive language course for 2-4 weeks before beginning your studies in a foreign language.
