Program at UQ: Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts
Exchanges are a big part of what has made my six year BA/LLB achievable. In my final semester I attended Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and had an amazing experience. I cannot recommend an exchange highly enough – the subjects on offer which you can’t do at UQ, the life, language and cultural lessons learned and most importantly the people you meet, make an exchange impossible to replicate. Living and studying overseas is the best way for language students to really master a foreign tongue, no matter how scary it seems when you arrive.
This was my second exchange and I almost didn’t go as I didn’t want to miss my final semester in Australia. But I don’t regret going at all. I was able to take advantage of a truly international city including its infamous nightlife. In particular Hamburg is perfectly placed as a hub to see Europe. I travelled with the mates I made at uni on more weekends than I remember to more destinations than I thought I could. I think exchange changes you for the better, it certainly helped me understand the world and other people a little more, and who doesn’t need to do that?
The only thing I would have changed if I could, would be to extend my exchange. On my first university exchange I was able to stay for an entire year and it made all the difference. If you have the chance to study abroad, you would be a fool not to.
