Academic experiences

I studied:

• Portuguese language
• Contemporary Brazilian Debates from a Sociological and Anthropological Perspective
• Special topics in Portuguese Language.

The part that I enjoyed the most about the classes at PUC was the opportunity to learn another language.

Personal experiences

I gained a lot from my experience at PUC, the best part being the opportunity to learn Portuguese whilst being completely immersed in the language.
Being in Rio for an extended period of time also allowed me to travel throughout South America and learn more about these cultures.

Accommodation

I lived off campus in an apartment.
I would recommend this to other students if they like to have their own space and choose who they would like to live with as opposed to being assigned to a host family.

Budget

It's possible to live comfortably for roughly $300 per week.
The most expensive part of being in Rio was flights to other countries within South America as these flights are usually quite expensive. However travel within Brazil is very reasonably priced.

Academic development and employability

Participation in this exchange has enhanced my employability greatly as it has been an excellent way to practice my adaptation skills when in a new environment.
From this I have gained increased confidence in my ability to work with others from different cultures and my ability to take on daunting tasks, such as learning a foreign language.

Highlight

The best part of my experience in Rio was the accessibility it gave me to travel to other parts of Brazil and South America.
I visited many places in Brazil and also Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
