If you know an outstanding teacher, a devoted tutor, or a creative learning designer or adviser, encourage them to self-nominate for this year’s UQ Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Expressions of interest (EOIs) close on Monday 29 April.
The 2023 Donor Impact Report is now live. Last year, 4,356 generous donors, including staff members, came together to raise $72.9 million for causes across the University. Read the inspiring stories of your generous donations’ beneficiaries.
The northern platform at UQ Lakes bus station, and the adjacent pedestrian pathway to access Eleanor Schonell Bridge, are now open. Buses will operate under a new stop layout, with support staff and signage on site to assist passengers. Minor construction works will continue and Stop A remains closed to allow testing of a pilot Metro vehicle. The Brisbane Metro at UQ Lakes station is expected to open to the public from late 2024.
The Student–Staff Partnerships (SSP) program is seeking project submissions. Students and staff who have an idea for a project to transform the UQ experience can make a submission for Round 3 (Semester 2), which closes on Sunday 5 May. Visit the SSP website to learn more about the program and submit a project proposal. You can also sign up for the upcoming workshop about developing a Student–Staff Partnership project idea on Wednesday 17 April at St Lucia.
Bookings are now open for the annual UQ flu vaccination program, which will run from Monday 22 April until mid-May 2024. The free vaccine program is open to all UQ staff, students, and staff of UQ affiliates aged 18 and over. Vaccinations will be available at many UQ locations, including all 4 campuses, Indooroopilly, Long Pocket, Mater Hospital, 308 Queen St, and Toowong.
Through UQ, you can take a suite of online diversity and inclusion courses offered by the broadcaster SBS. Engage with thought-provoking interactive activities, video content and reading on topics such as disability, culture, gender, age and LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
Expressions of interests (EOIs) for UQ’s new Teaching Associate (TA) positions are open until Friday 26 April. Eligible casual academic employees can apply for these positions via the Workday Jobs Hub. Each faculty or school with applications open in this round has their own unique advertisement, which contains information about the disciplines or courses they are recruiting for. For more information about these new continuing, variable-intensity academic positions, including the eligibility requirements, visit the TA webpage.
Following the conclusion of our second Annual Performance and Development (APD) cycle, UQ is seeking feedback from academic and professional staff on their experience with the process. Please take a few minutes to complete the relevant brief feedback surveys, created for both staff and supervisors/managers. The surveys are open from now until Friday 26 April.

The new Policy and Procedure Library (PPL) is now live. The new library has improved search and navigation features to make it easier to find the policy information you need.
Nominations for the 2024 UQ Alumni Awards are open now. These awards are an opportunity to celebrate UQ ChangeMakers who have accomplished outstanding success in their field and made exemplary contributions to their community. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 17 May.
The Campus Pharmacy at St Lucia is now open at a new location in Building 4 on Staff House Road. The pharmacy operator and operating hours remain the same – Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 7pm and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. You can search for ‘pharmacy’ on the UQ St Lucia map to view the new location.
The UQ Library would like your help to improve their website. UQ academic staff are invited to complete a series of short interactive tasks to help the Library organise their website’s menus and content.

Brisbane’s oldest book fair is returning to the UQ Centre in 2024. From Friday 3 May to Monday 6 May, browse thousands of books, priced as low as $1, at the UQ Alumni Book Fair. All funds raised will support student scholarships, critical research and UQ educators. You can donate books of all types, as well as magazines, vinyl records, posters, DVDs, and CDs, at St Lucia or Long Pocket.
Academic promotion applications for Levels C, D, and E are now open. Eligible candidates can apply now in Workday. Applications close on Sunday 30 June.
The UQ Professional Services Staff Fellowship Program to the Technical University of Munich (TUM) provides professional development opportunities for UQ staff. In 2024, 2 professional staff members at UQ will be awarded funding to undertake a fellowship at TUM for up to 2 weeks. Funding of up to $7,000 will be available to support travel costs. Submit your application by Wednesday 1 May.

Face-to-face training around managing unconscious bias is now available, and you can register on Workday. This new Capstone course will provide you with practical strategies to help you address and manage unconscious bias in workplace decision-making. Staff must complete the online introductory course around unconscious bias before they register for the new Capstone module. The introductory online training can be accessed at any time, and the next face-to-face class will run on Tuesday 21 May.
A new admissions system is coming. In October, StudyLink will replace UQ’s current domestic and international admissions systems. Find out more about this exciting project on the Admissions Reimagined and Transformed project page.
The UQ Food Drive is now open at our St Lucia campus. Members of the UQ community are invited to donate non-perishable, unopened foods that have a minimum 4-week shelf live. Donated food will directly support the UQ Union’s welfare programs for students experiencing hardship, including Kampus Kitchen and grocery hampers. Donations can be brought to the UQ Union building at St Lucia, opposite the Lolly Shop.
Are you looking for affordable therapy services with minimal wait times? The UQ Psychology Clinic is here to support you. The clinic is staffed by postgraduate psychology and counselling students. Both staff and students can self-refer to the clinic, located at St Lucia, for therapy (individual, couple or group) and cognitive and neuropsychological assessments.
UQ has committed up to $1,000,000 for Teaching Innovation Grants. These grants provide funding for creative and innovative staff initiatives in teaching and learning that enhance the experiences and educational outcomes for students. If you have a project commencing in 2024 focusing on student experience, academic integrity and assessment, submit a grant application by Friday 26 April.
Do you have a small sustainability idea you’d like to bring to life on campus? The UQ Green Fund may be able to help. Over the years, they’ve supported initiatives to reduce plastic in labs, create community gardens, host wellbeing workshops and more. Applications are open now for 2024.
Don’t miss out on ITaLI’s new generative AI workshop series, exploring AI and digital learning practices. These sessions provide insights and interactive experiences to show you how AI can enhance your work and teaching. Multiple sessions of these 3 workshops are being held throughout the year, so you can attend as many as you like.
Registrations for the Ally Workshop 2024 are now open. This workshop will qualify you as an official UQ Ally and member of the Ally Network. Develop a basic understanding of LGBTQIA+ issues and knowledge that will assist you in your role as a UQ Ally. The Ally Network provides a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and students.
The Open Course Scheme is an opportunity for UQ staff to visit classrooms and observe the great teaching at UQ. The scheme is open to all staff but is especially valuable for those who work in the teaching and learning space. Watching a colleague teach and manage their classroom is a great way to learn something new, see innovative practice and be inspired. Register to visit a class from the range of courses including veterinary science, maths, political science, and education.
UQ’s Cancer, Ageing and Mental Health program is now accepting participants. This an individually prescribed exercise program for people with cancer. The clinic runs during April and May and is open to the community, including UQ staff and their families and friends. Participants will be invited to attend 6 one-hour sessions led by third-year clinical and exercise and physiology students and supervised by experienced accredited exercise physiologists.
Applications are now open for the UQ Professional Network (UQPN) Professional Development Scholarship. Professional staff who are not already members of the UQPN may join for a tax-deductible fee of $25 to take advantage of this professional development opportunity. Submit your scholarship application by Wednesday 17 April.
If you are looking to get your children active outside during the upcoming school holidays, why not register them for the term 1 of UQ Sport's Kids Holiday Camp? Taking place at St Lucia on both weeks of the school holidays, Week 1 (2 April to 5 April) and Week 2 (8 April to 12 April), there will be a variety of indoor and outdoor sport-based games, led by experienced coaches.
If injury is impacting your exercise or your ability to play sports, see a sports and exercise physiotherapist at the new UQ Sport and Exercise Injury, Participation and Performance Clinic (UQ-SPRINT). UQ staff and students, as well as their spouses and dependents, receive a 15% discount on clinic fees.
Due to lots of rain and humidity recently, there has been an increase in mould in some UQ buildings. Read the information about how to identify mould and actions to take if you find mould on the updated webpage.
Changes to parking are now in effect at St Lucia, Herston, Dutton Park (PACE) and the Toowong office. A reminder that staff who use hourly or daily capped parking must enter their staff ID in the 'My profile' section of the CellOPark app to access staff rates. Changes to permit rates are automatically applied.
