Volunteers needed: Moreton Bay Research Station open day

This year’s Open Day at UQ’s Moreton Bay Research Station celebrates the International Year of the Reef 2008. Volunteers are needed to help set up and run the event from 9.30am, Friday, November 21, until 5pm, Saturday, November 22. Food and accommodation provided. Details: Zoë Allen, 3409 9058.

UQ REEF FEST 2008 – celebrate the Moreton Bay region

As part of the Dunwich-wide “Celebration of the Sea”, UQ REEF FEST will be held from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, November 22, at the Moreton Bay Research Station, corner of Flinders Avenue and Fraser Street, Dunwich. Concessional rates for water transport are available to travel to this casual, family-oriented event which includes a live reptile show, marine touch tank and displays on loan from Queensland Museum. UQ Business School’s Postgraduate Information Evening

ResTeach – tapping in to our research staff

In the 2009 UQ Budget, $4 million has been set aside from the Enhanced Student Contribution Funds to encourage and facilitate schools to utilise research staff. Applications for the new scheme, ResTeach, can be made through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) via the Executive Dean by Friday, November 21, 2008. Hear Sex Discrimination Commissioner speak

Elizabeth Broderick, Sex Discrimination Commissioner and Commissioner responsible for Age Discrimination, will speak at an Equity Office seminar in the Library Conference Room, 10.45am–noon, Monday, November 24. University of Queensland Press and the Faculty of Arts will host an intimate lunch with David Malouf. Marking the first in a series of literary lunches, David will read from his new poetry collection Revolving Days. Bowl into breakfast at Tattersall’s

UQ Cricket Club’s 7th Test Breakfast will be held at 7am for a 7.15am start on Tuesday, November 18, at Tattersall’s. The speaker this year will be former Australian Test cricketer Darren Lehmann. Soothe your worried mind

UQ clinical psychologists are running a four-week program in mindfulness, including: being aware in the present, mindful breathing, body awareness, and mindfulness in everyday life. Suitable for people experiencing mild to moderate levels of anxiety, depression, or stress, or anyone interested in learning more about mindfulness, the program will be run over four weeks starting Tuesday, November 25. NMR education
