Do you experience colours when you see or hear words, letters or numbers? Do you have a friend or relative who does? If so, QBI researchers would like to hear from you. They are conducting research on the phenomenon of synaesthesia, in which perception in one sense triggers experiences in another. The study involves behavioural investigations of visual perception, and recording of the brain’s electrical signals from the scalp during synaesthetic experiences. Participants will be paid for their involvement, and for reasonable transport expenses to UQ in the Brisbane metropolitan area. Details: Rebecca Rainbow or phone 0403 869 962.

Volunteers needed for whiplash study

Have you recently been involved in a car accident and experiencing neck pain as a result? If so, the Whiplash Research Unit would like to hear from you. The Unit needs volunteers for research to determine factors that lead to some people experiencing persistent symptoms following a whiplash injury. Innovative mobile data collection systems are being used to take research out of the lab and examine the impact of whiplash injuries on normal daily life. Participants should be aged between 18 and 65 and have neck pain resulting from a car accident which occurred in the past four weeks. Details: Ashley Pedler or phone ext. 54529.

Participants should be in good general health, have two or more colds per year and be 18 years or older. They need to make three visits to Princess Alexandra Hospital and complete a questionnaire. In the last visit, a blood sample will be taken. Participants will take Lactoferrin/Immunoglobulin or a placebo daily for 90 days and record any cold symptoms during this time. They will be paid $50. Details: 3240 5273 or email l.vitetta@uq.edu.au.
