It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Details: Belinda Weaver, Manager, UQ eSpace, or Amberyn Thomas, Office of the DVC (Research).

Carrick’s website, contact information and printed materials are being updated to reflect the organisation’s new identity. Until these arrangements are finalised, current contact details continue to apply.

World Hepatitis Day & National Hepatitis Awareness Week
Today is the first ever World Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis Australia joins countries world-wide in asking ‘Am I No. 12?’ to raise awareness of the statistic: 1 in 12 people worldwide are living with hepatitis B or C. This is 500 million people worldwide and over 10 times the number infected with HIV/AIDS. Between them, hepatitis B and C kill 1.5 million people a year, yet these conditions can be managed through screening, diagnosis, referral, treatment and prevention. In Australia there are up to 160,000 people living with chronic hepatitis B, and 200,000 with chronic hepatitis C. Details: online and for a list of events, visit Hepatitis Australia’s website.

Do you have persistent neck pain from a whiplash injury?
UQ physiotherapy researchers are seeking volunteers who have persistent neck pain resulting from a whiplash injury. Whiplash injuries can affect the size and structure of the neck muscles. This study is investigating whether specific, non-pain provoking exercise can reverse these changes. Volunteers will be required to undertake two, supervised 30 minute exercise sessions per week for 12 weeks at UQ St Lucia campus. They also must be willing to have three separate MRI scans of their neck at The Wesley Hospital over the 12-week study. There is no cost to the participant and there are no side effects from the MRI. Volunteers must be 18-45 years and have ongoing neck pain from a whiplash injury that occurred within the past three months–two years. Contact: James Elliott or phone ext. 54529.
