Sharpen your marketing and communications skills
The University’s Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) will run a two-hour marketing and communications advice session on February 27 in the Senate room, Brian Wilson Chancellery, St Lucia at 9.30am. Learn about University marketing, advertising, photography, publications, media, protocol and ceremonies, web services, and corporate ID and guidelines. Enrol online.

Secretaries and Office Professionals hold best practice sharing session
The UQSOPA (University of Queensland Secretaries’ and Office Professionals’ Association) is running a best practice sharing session for members and other interested personal assistants, secretaries and office professionals on Thursday, February 7 at 2-4pm in the Conference Room, Level 1, Duhig Library. UQ scientist part of group to win awards
Professor Matthew Brown, from UQ's Diamantina Institute for Cancer, Immunology and Metabolic Medicine is part of the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium which recently received awards including selection as “Editor’s favourites” for a Nature paper on Genome-wide association study of 14,000 cases of seven common diseases and 3000 shared controls. The consortium was also named Research Leader of the Year by Scientific American and their Nature paper was listed as one of the Top 10 major advances in heart disease and stroke by the American Heart Association. All these papers have a Diamantina Institute component.

The Secretary and Registrar approved administrative changes to the following policies during December 2007 and January 2008:
- 5.20.4 Appointment of Adjunct Academic Staff;
- 1.60.4 Records Management;
- 3.30.2 Marking and Award of Grades; and
- 3.30.5 Examinations.
Participants sought for climate change and energy workshop

Manual tasks performed in Engineering Workshops may pose a risk of serious musculoskeletal injury to the staff who perform them. The Engineering workshops: Participative ergonomics course in the staff development program will assist in re-designing work processes to avoid injury.

Come ‘N’ Try activities for free
UQ SPORT will hold a free Come ‘N’ Try Week from Monday, February 25, to Friday, February 29. Offerings include Group Fitness classes, and Recreation courses ranging from dance and yoga to boot camp and martial arts.
Enrolments opening soon for social sport competition

Health Sciences students needed for pilot program
A new, interprofessional education online learning module will be piloted on Saturday, February 2 from 9.30am to 12pm. Students will be required to read a clinical case study and comment on how to best develop an interprofessional management plan from their professional perspective. Students from Audiology, Dentistry, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Medicine and Nursing are sought to participate. Only students in their 3rd year, 4th year or recent graduates should volunteer. A $100 Coles/Myer gift voucher and free lunch will be given to student volunteers. Details: Emma Poulsen.

Submit abstracts for the World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2008
Dr Andrew Dicks of the UQ School of Engineering invites abstracts for research papers and posters for the World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2008. The conference (15-19 June, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre) will bring together issues of climate change, energy security and environmental pollution, and discuss hydrogen’s potential to be a fuel of the future. Volunteers sought for vitamin and mineral study
Healthy volunteers aged four-12 are sought to attend three, two-hour sessions, scheduled approximately six weeks apart, at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Testing will include a blood test, body composition measurements and a variety of questionnaires, with results available at the conclusion of the study. These tests are not typically available and may provide detailed information relating to the child’s vitamin and mineral levels. Details, email: n.schoendorfer@uq.edu.au.
Do you have a primary school child with Autism or Asperger’s?
A School of Psychology research team wishes to hear from families who have a child (aged five to 12) with a diagnosis of Autism, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or Asperger Syndrome. The team is interested in how social understanding may affect social skills in these children. Participation may involve assessment and free, one-on-one instruction for the child. Participants required for drug elimination study
The School of Pharmacy seeks male and female non-smokers of a range of body weights (45kg to 200kg), and aged 18 years and above to enrol in a study investigating the influence of body size on the removal of drugs from the body. Do you have chronic back pain?
Volunteers with a history of low back pain longer than three months are invited to participate in a study investigating motor control of the low back and pelvis. Participants will be required to attend a two-hour session at the CCRE Spine, (Building #84a) St Lucia campus. The tests involve four simple pain-free and non-invasive measures including the use of ultrasound and EMG. Testing sessions are available from Monday to Friday throughout January and February.
