Nominate now for Carrick Awards for 2008

Nominations have opened for the category, Awards for Programs that Enhanced Learning, in the Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching 2008. This category recognises learning and teaching support programs and services that make outstanding contributions to the quality of student learning and the quality of the student experience of higher education. Fourteen awards of $25,000 are available in this category. Nominations, in the form of an expression of interest, of a maximum two pages length, addressing the selection criteria, should be forwarded to Ms Jenny Bjarnesen, Academic Policy Unit, Room 629, J.D. Graduands ready for ceremonies

AIBN and Dow sign agreement

New research centre launched

Chancellor, Sir Llew Edwards, AC, last week officially launched the University’s $66 million Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR).

Induction courses for staff new to Ipswich campus

All academic and general staff who will be new to the Ipswich campus in 2008 are encouraged to register for the Induction for Staff new to Ipswich Campus on February 21, 2008. Academic staff are also encouraged to register for the Induction for Academics new to Ipswich, to be held on the same day. (Please note that online registration will not be available until early 2008). The courses will run on Thursday, February 21. Arts offers HECS–HELP scholarship

The Faculty of Arts is offering Commonwealth-supported postgraduate coursework scholarships (HECS–HELP) each semester to full-time general staff employed in a continuing appointment/s within the University for at least two years. Applicants must gain admission to a postgraduate coursework program and commence study in 2008. Submit applications for Semester 1, 2008 to Sherrie Hoang by January 30, 2008. EPSA offers postgraduate scholarships for general staff

The Faculty of EPSA also offers Commonwealth-supported postgraduate scholarships to general staff members (full-time for at least two years) who gain admission to postgraduate coursework programs within the Faculty. Win the jackpot at quiz night

The Staff Club's final monthly quiz night for this year is on Wednesday, December 12, at 6pm for a 6.30pm start for teams of up to six players. Content includes three general knowledge rounds, an audio round, a paper and pen task and five questions on a movie of the month – this month Die Hard (1988). There are team and individual prizes, a cash jackpot prize ($400 this month) and a “Famous Faces” prize board. Entrance fee: $3 per person. Intercampus bus timetable revised for 2007–2008 vacation period

UQ study to help Australians breathe easy

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive, long-lasting breathing disorder that impairs quality of life and is the fifth-largest cause of death in Australia. Researchers in the Division of Physiotherapy are looking for people with COPD to take part in clinical trials for a new self-management program.
